Anchored in Auroville, this experience design mirrors the spectacle. Reflecting upon Marshall McLuhan’s postulate, ‘Medium is the Message’, the curated experience keenly observes the weaponization of cameras and smartphones in spheres of resistance and protests. How recording devices are used not only to passively record, but also to proactively prevent or perpetrate violence. The curation of media reflects mobilised crowds, heightened emotions, and dysregulated actions being confronted by state regulatory mechanisms and law enforcement agents. The experience is designed to make us reflect on the social scars commodified as a spectacle, to be circulated perpetually as digital footprints holding the power of forming / reforming / deforming public memory and opinion.
